Season comes to end in overtime for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s soccer

LEBANON, Tenn. - 11/5/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime at Cumberland University in the quarterfinals of the TranSouth Conference Tournament. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ends the season with a 6-10-1 record, while Cumberland advances with a 9-8-2 mark.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first in the match on a header from Guilherme Reis in the 26th minutes of play, assisted by Cody Styx. Cumberland answered just 13 minutes later to tie the match. Nathan Gilespie clipped a shot in off the crossbar in the 39th minute. The score remained 1-1 for the remainder of regulation. Then, just three minutes into the first overtime, Cumberland’s Robert Als scored to send his team to the semifinals.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot Cumberland 14-13 in the match, including 8-6 in shots on goal. James Landham recorded four saves in the loss. Matthew Shattuck recorded seven saves in the victory.
