No. 22 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tops Belhaven 87-66 on Homecoming

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/5/2011 - The No. 22 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s basketball team posted an 87-66 win over Belhaven (Miss.) University Saturday for Homecoming 2011. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 2-0, while Belhaven dropped to 1-1 on the season.

Five Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ players scored in double figures, while seven players had at least six points in the contest. The Bulldogs shot 53 percent from three point range on the night, making 9-of-17.

Belhaven jumped on top first with a basket from Daryl Arnold. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered on a basket from Leventrice Gray to tie the game, until Belhaven’s Brittion Smith sank a three pointer to put his team back up 5-2. However, the Bulldogs responded with a 17-0 run and led 19-5 at the 13:56 mark following a three pointer from Dani Marti. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained control the rest of the way and extended their lead to 16 points at the break, 41-25.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs led by as many as 25 points, 83-58, following one of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s nine three pointers on the night. This one coming from freshman guard Pedro Faller.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led in scoring by David Lane with 16 points. Marti added 13 points, while Vaden, Gray and Antoine Hall each scored 12 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 46 percent from the field and 64 percent (18-28) from behind the arc.

Belhaven was led by Woodie Howard with 12 points. Arnold and Datodrick Pinkston each added 11 points. The Blazers shot 36 percent from the field, 20 percent (3-15) from behind the arc, and 63 percent (15-24) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be two games in the McKendree (Ill.) University Classic, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12.
