LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. - 11/1/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s golf team posted a first place finish in the RedHawk Classic hosted by Martin Methodist College at the Lawrenceburg Country Club. This marked the third title of the fall in six tournaments for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot a two-round total of 589 to win by three shots over Cumberland University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a tournament best 288 in the first round, followed by a 301 in the final round Tuesday. Cumberland finish second (592), Bethel University finished third (601), Martin Methodist finished fourth (612), and Freed-Hardeman University finished fifth (642).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Kyle Long led the event after the first round 69, but shot a 76 in round two. Long finished second (145), Brett Barry finished third (146), Jesper Swedenborg finished T6 (149), Steven Coffelt finished T6 (149), Andrew Knight finished T14 (153), Ben Waits finished 25th (160), and Ryan Mantooth finished 37th (180).
Highlights for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the tournament included Swedenborg sinking a hole-in-one on hole number 11 in the first round. Coffelt added an eagle to his second round score on hole number eight.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be off until the spring when the Bulldogs are set to make a run for their third straight TranSouth Conference title and a third straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
