Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s basketball opens season with 99-67 win

CONWAY, Ark. - 10/31/2011 - The No. 22 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team opened the 2011-12 season with a 99-67 road win at Central Baptist College. This was the opening game of the season for both teams.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first on a basket by Gio Koguashvili as they jumped out to a 9-4 lead. Central Baptist rallied back and led 10-9 with 14:34 left in the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ responded with a 13-2 run to regain the lead for good. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 45-33 at the half.

In the second half, Central Baptist pulled to within four points, 52-48, at the 14:53 mark, but could not get any close. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stopped the Central Baptist run and extended their lead out to as many as 35 points, 99-64, before taking the win, 99-67.

Laventrice Gray led five Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ players in double figures with 16 points. David Lane added 15 points, Samual Danache scored 13 points, Dani Marti scored 12 points and Skyler Vaden scored 11 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 44 percent from the field, 37 percent (7-19) from behind the arc and 63 percent (18-28) from the free throw line.

Central Baptist was led by Spencer Caraway with 17 points and Brian Shyne with 10 points. The Mustangs shot 37 percent from the field, including 0-of-13 from behind the arc, and 66 percent (21-32) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their home opener, Saturday Nov. 5 versus Belhaven (Miss.) at 4:00 p.m.
