JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/31/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s soccer team posted a 6-0 win over Benedictine (Ill.) University-Springfield Monday afternoon at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 11-2-2 on the season, while Benedictine dropped to 1-16-1 overall.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored quickly with three goals in the first 10 minutes. Eboni Murphy scored in the seventh minute, assisted by Christina Reardon. Then Steffi King followed two minutes later with her first of three goals on the afternoon. King then added her second goal of the day just 30 seconds later, assisted by Ashlie Watson. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was up 3-0 in just under 10 minutes played in the game.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Bethany Stiles and Rachel Boswell put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 5-0 in the first half with goals in the 36th and 38th minutes respectively. Eliza Clark assisted on the goal from Stiles. King kicked in her third goal of the afternoon in the 64th minute to complete her first career hat-trick at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
Emily Warren, the three-time reigning TranSouth Defensive Player of the Week, recorded two saves in the shutout victory. Lindsay Taylor recorded 10 saves in the loss.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the a semifinal game in the TranSouth Conference Tournament at home, Tuesday, Nov. 8. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished as co-champions of the regular season but will be the #2 seed in the tournament by means of the goal-differential tiebreaker with Martin Methodist. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s opponent is TBA.
