NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 10/31/2011 - The TranSouth Conference released their 2011-12 Women’s Basketball Preseason Coach’s Poll and the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs have been selected to repeat as champions. In addition to the preseason poll, the conference also named their TranSouth Preseason All-Conference honors. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Lavanda Ross was picked as the preseason player of the year in the league
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has won five straight TranSouth Regular Season titles and four of the last five tournament titles. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has also won four NAIA titles in the past seven seasons. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has made seven straight trips to the national semifinals, including last season’s runner-up finish, denying the Lady Bulldogs a third straight national title.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is the NAIA’s No. 2 ranked team in the national preseason poll. This snapped an NAIA record 48 straight polls in which Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was ranked No. 1.
In addition to Ross, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also placed newcomer Shelby Ashcraft on the preseason all-conference team. Ross, a native of Jackson, is a returning NAIA All-American and first team all-conference player from last season. Ashcraft is a sophomore transfer from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and is a native of Cabot, Ark.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opens their season at home, Tuesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. versus Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.).
