LEBANON, Tenn. - 10/25/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s soccer team dropped their road match 2-1 at Cumberland University Tuesday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fell to 4-9-1 on the season and 2-3-1 in the TranSouth. Cumberland improved to 7-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.
The loss for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ marked the seventh one-goal loss on the season.
Cumberland scored first in the 14th minute on a goal from Harry Mason, assisted by Lee Glass. Just 15 minutes later, Cumberland added what proved to be the game-winning goal on a header from Eric Clark. Neil Howard recorded the assist.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was able to get on the board in the 33rd minute when Guilherme Reis scored on a penalty kick. The halftime score of 2-1 held for the final.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot Cumberland 20-13 in the game, including 15-5 in the second half, but could not get a ball to find the net. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 8-7 in shots on goal. James Landham recorded five saves in the loss, while Matthew Shattuck added seven saves for Cumberland.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their last regular season match when the Bulldogs host Trevecca Nazarene University Friday, October 28.
