JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/22/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s soccer posted a 2-1 upset over No. 14 Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Saturday at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 5-8-1 on the season, while Hannibal-LaGrange dropped to 13-3 overall.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first as Guilherme Reis put the Bulldog up 1-0 on senior day in the 22nd minute. Guilherme Celli had the assist on Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s first goal. Thirteen minutes later, Hannibal-LaGrange tied the match at 1-1 with a goal from Alejandro Porras, assisted by Javier Aguado. The score remained 1-1 at the half.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Alysson Mohl gave the Bulldogs their second lead of the game with a goal in the 68th minute. His goal proved to be the game-winner as the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defense and goalie James Landham kept Hannibal scoreless in the second half. Hannibal out shot Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 8-5 in the second half, and had a few near misses. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot Hannibal in the match 15-12, including 10-4 in the first half.
Landham, one of seniors honored before the match, recorded eight saves, allowing just the one first half goal. Logan Miller recorded seven saves in the loss.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road conference game, Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Cumberland University in Lebanon.
