HENDERSON, Tenn. - 10/18/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University volleyball team fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-23) in close sets at Freed-Hardeman University Tuesday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped to 10-17 on the season and 5-4 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman improved to 14-6 on the season and 8-2 in league play.
The first set had Freed-Hardeman jumping out to a quick 4-1 lead and led by 17-10 at one point. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied back to tie the match at 24-24, before the Lady Lions took the win 26-24. In the second set, the Lady Lions controlled the play as they jumped out to a 9-3 lead. They never trailed as they won 25-18. In the third set, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a 6-0 lead and led 7-2 before Freed-Hardeman rallied to take a 14-8 lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied back to lead 22-21 but could not hold off the home team and fell 25-23 and 3-0 in the match.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Savannah Hughes with six kills while Abbey Wainwright and Anna Sims added five kills each. Emmie Moroski had 17 assists, Lauren Sprouse led with 17 digs, and Sims led with two blocks.
Freed-Hardeman was led by Sydney Rice with 17 kills and Sandra Montoya with 10 kills. Amber Turner and Renata Ferreira added 21 and 18 assists respectively. Carissa Foshee led with five aces, Callie West and Sandra Montoya led with 18 digs, and Rice led with five blocks.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home match Thursday at 7:00 p.m. versus Bethel University.
