JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/18/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s soccer team stayed on pace atop the TranSouth Conference standings with a 2-0 win over Bethel University Tuesday night at the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 7-2-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in league play. Bethel dropped to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Both teams are receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Dionna Linn scored the game-winner early in the match when she took a pass from Christina Reardon and scored hit the top, left corner of the goal in the 12th minute of play. The score remained 1-0 until late in the match when Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added some insurance. Terylin Wassell scored with five minutes to play on an assist from Ashley Watson.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Bethel recorded 12 shots each in the match, with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ edging out Bethel 8-7 in shots on goal. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Emily Warren, the reigning TranSouth Defensive Player of the Week, recorded her fifth shutout on the season with seven saves. Jessica Coates took the loss, allowing two goals and recorded five saves.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a non-conference road match on Saturday at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Ky.) College.
