PULASKI, Tenn. - 10/11/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women’s soccer team made history with a tie Tuesday night at Martin Methodist College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and NAIA No. 6 Martin Methodist played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie in Pulaski. It was the first time that Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had not lost to Martin Methodist, who has two NAIA National Titles and seven straight TranSouth titles in their past seven seasons.
Last season, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ came the closest in the nine previous matches played as the Lady Bulldogs fell 2-1 in the conference tournament semifinals. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 0-9-1 in the series history.
Martin Methodist jumped out to the quick lead with a goal from Daniel Sofer in the 15th minute of play the home team remained in control as they added a second goal in the 36th minute and took that 2-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got on the board with a goal from Sara Weir in the 49th minute, assisted by Bridget Roney. Then, with just 15 minutes lef in regulation, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tied the match on a goal from Steffi King. Martin Methodist outshot Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 4-1 in the two overtimes, but neither team managed a winning goal.
In the match, Martin Methodist outshot Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 19-3 overall and 6-3 in shots-on-goal. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has no shots in the first half. Emily Warren of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ recorded four saves, while Hanit Schwarz recorded one save their 110 minutes of work in goal.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home conference match on Tuesday, October 18 versus Bethel University at 6:00 p.m.
