Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ volleyball sweeps Cumberland 3-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/11/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-21) win over Cumberland University at Fred DeLay Gymnasium Tuesday night. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 9-13 on the season and 5-3 in the TranSouth. Cumberland dropped to 9-17 overall and 3-6 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first set and never looked back. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretched their lead up to 15-6 and then their largest at 24-12 before taking the set 25-13. In the second set, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won the first three points, but Cumberland tied the set at 4-4. However Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored four straight and seven of the next eight points to gain control and a 2-0 lead in the match. The third set was played much tighter. Cumberland jumped out to the quick 7-4 lead before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tied the set at 8-8. Cumberland led for the final time at 9-8 before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ regained control of the set. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as five points in the final set and won 25-21 to seal the 3-0 victory.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Kami Dickerson with 11 kills and Savannah Hughes with 10 kills. Emmie Moroski led with 22 assists while Lydia Wright added 14 assists. Wright led with four aces, Amanda Deem and Lauren Sprouse led with nine digs each and Anna Sims led with five blocks.

Cumberland was led by Amanda Wiseman with seven kills Meghan Gass added 20 assists, and Brooke Bowers led with 21 digs.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be four matches in the Savannah (Ga.) College of Art and Design tournament on Friday and Saturday.
