HENDERSON, Tenn. - 10/4/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s soccer team earned a hard fought victory on the road in a 4-3 double-overtime win at Freed-Hardeman University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 4-5-1 on the season and 2-1 in league play. Freed-Hardeman dropped to 7-4 overall and 0-3 in the TranSouth.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ freshman and former Trinity Christian Standout Alex Pratt recorded the game-winner in the 104th minute of play to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the conference victory. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ never led in the contest until that game-winning goal by Pratt.
The Lions of Freed-Hardeman scored first with a goal just nine minutes into the match. Kenniel Hyde scored on an assist from Nolan Beede. Then, just four minutes later, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered to tie the match on a goal from Guilherme Reis. It only took Freed-Hardeman 40 seconds to regain the lead as Simbarashe Zvaita scored on an assist from Hyde to put the Lions up 2-1. The score stayed at 2-1 until just before the half when Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Reis added his second goal of the half to tie the match at 2-2. That is where the score stood at the half.
In the second half, Freed-Hardeman once again took a lead, but Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered right back to tied the match at 3-3. Freed-Hardeman’s Hyde scored his second goal of the match to put his team up 3-2 in the 52nd minute of play. Then in the 64th minute, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Dejan Kostic tied the match at 3-3. After six combined goals in the first 64 minutes, the teams played a scoreless final 26 minutes to end regulation tied at 3-3.
In the first overtime, neither team recorded a shot after Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ had outshot Freed-Hardeman 17-14 in regulation. The game moved into the second overtime. Then, four minutes into the second overtime, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got the win on Pratt’s goal.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished the match with a 19-14 shots advantage, including 8-5 in shots on goal. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Freed-Hardeman managed just one shot each in the 14 minutes of overtime play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s James Landham recorded non saves in the match, allowing three goals in the win. Alexandre Girodo of FHU recorded three saves and allowed the four goals in his night of work in the net.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be non-conference road match at Covenent (Ga.) College Saturday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m.
