Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men, women capture cross country invitational titles

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/1/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University cross country teams swept the titles in the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Fall Invitational Saturday. The event, which included college men and women races, followed by high school boys and girls races, was held on the campus of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Allison Martin of Montrose, Colo., took first place in the women’s race with a time of 18:57 in the 5K event. She edged out her two teammates, Audrey Hazlehurst of Jackson (second place, 19:44) and Whitney Sweet (third place, 20:04).Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ boasted four runners in the top five as Lilli Harmon finished fifth with a time of 20:18. Carissa Wilson was seventh (20:58), Ashlee Stewart was ninth (21:26), Cally Howell was 18th (22:27) and Hannah Clardy was 22nd (23:05). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s team time was 1:40:01. Bethel finished second, followed by Freed-Hardeman in third and Trevecca Nazarene in fourth.

On the men’s side, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Alex Bett was first with a time of 25:55 in the 8K event. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ put three more runners in the top 10 including Zach Covington in sixth (27:22), Joel Wellum seventh (27:27) and Lucas Peiser ninth (27:41). Logan Smith finished 12th (28:25) and Caleb Creel finished 20th (30:34). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s team posted a time of 2:16:50 to earn the win. Bethel finished second and Trevecca Nazarene was third.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the St. Louis Fall Cross Country Classic at Forest Park in St. Louis October 22.
