Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s golf wins home tournament, Knight top individual

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/1/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s golf team earned a tournament win in the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Fall Invitational played at Jackson National Golf Club Friday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ freshman Andrew Knight won top medalist in the event in just his second college tournament.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot a 316 in the one-day event and edged Cumberland University (319) by three strokes. Bethel University finished third at 320, Blue Mountain (Miss.) College was fourth at 323, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s B-team was fifth at 324, Martin Methodist College was sixth at 334, Freed-Hardeman University was seventh at 335, Cumberland B-team was eighth at 340, Bethel B-team was ninth at 350, Martin Methodist C-team was tenth at 376, while Martin Methodist B-team did not finish.

Knight, a freshman from Princeton, Ky., shot a 74 on the par 72 course on a windy afternoon. He was one shot better that Blue Mountain’s Brandon Robbins (75) and two shots better than teammate Ben Waits (76). A group of three players, including Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Brett Barry and Jesper Swedenborg finished three shots back with 77’s.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s A-team including Barry, Swedenborg, David Hopper (79) and Kyle Long (83). Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s B-team including Knight, Waits, Ryan Mantooth (83) and Matthew McSwain (91).

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a trip to Murray, Ky. for the Murray State Invitational Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4.
