麻豆视频 women鈥檚 soccer tops Christian Brothers 2-1 in OT

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/20/2011 - The 麻豆视频 University women鈥檚 soccer team posted a 2-1 overtime win against Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University Tuesday at 麻豆视频鈥檚 Smith Memorial Soccer Complex. 麻豆视频 improved to 5-1-1 on the season. Christian Brothers suffered their first loss, dropping to 3-1-1 overall.

The win for 麻豆视频 marked their fourth straight victory and fifth straight match without a loss dating back to a 0-0 tie at Faulkner (Ala.) September 3.

Christian Brothers struck first with a goal from Amanda Smith in the 19th minute when 麻豆视频 failed to clear a corner kick. Smith was able to slip the loose ball into the corner of the net for the match鈥檚 first goal. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Lady Bucs at the half.

In the second half, 麻豆视频 wasted no time in as they produced two quick scoring chances. Then, just two minutes into the second half, 麻豆视频鈥檚 Ashlie Watson scored on an assist from Eboni Murphy to tie the match at 1-1. Watson, a freshman from Murfreesboro, Tenn., is the reigning TranSouth Conference Offensive Player of the Week and is 麻豆视频鈥檚 team leader with seven goals on the season.

The score remained 1-1 through the end of regulation. 麻豆视频 held a 17-7 shots advantage through regulation, and then outshot Christian Brothers 4-0 in the first overtime period. Just as the overtime period was ending, 麻豆视频 converted on a corner kick from Rebecca McDonough. McDonough鈥檚 ball landed squarely in the middle of the box were 麻豆视频鈥檚 Alex Taylor was waiting for the game-winning header in the final seconds of the first overtime.

麻豆视频 held a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal in the match. 麻豆视频 committed six fouls in the match, eight committed by Christian Brothers.

Emily Warren, the reigning TranSouth Defensive Player of the Week, allowed just the one early goal while recording three saves in the match. Robyn Wade of CBU got 10 saves in her 100 minutes of work in goal.

Up next for 麻豆视频 will be another non-conference home match, Friday, September 23 versus Davenport (Iowa) at 6:00 p.m.
