JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/12/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team played Missouri Baptist University to a 3-3 tie in double overtime Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 1-4-1 on the season, while Missouri Baptist goes to 0-3-1 overall.
Missouri Baptist scored first on a goal from Karl Russell in the 12th minute. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered with two goals, the first from Dejan Kostic in the 15th minute and the second from Alex Pratt in the 22nd minute. Just when it looked like Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ would take the halftime advantage, Missouri Baptist scored in the 41st minute on a goal from Greg Kranz.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took their second lead of the match with a goal from Kemal Gogic in the 71st minute. But again, late heroics from Missouri Baptist’s Kranz tied the match for good with a goal with less than two minutes to play in the match.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out shot Missouri Baptist 7-5 in the two overtime periods but neither team could break through for the win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out shot Missouri Baptist 24-21 in the match, including 12-11 in shots on goal. James Landham recorded eight saves for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, while Spartan goalie Ethan Brunk tallied nine saves.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their TranSouth Conference opener on Friday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. versus Lyon (Ark.). The match will be played at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.
