JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/7/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women's soccer team defeated Delta State (Miss.) University 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon to improved to 2-1-1 on the young season. Delta State dropped to 0-3.
For Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, this match marked their fourth straight road contest to open the 2011 season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has one more road match on Saturday at Missouri Baptist, before playing their home opener versus Lyon (Ark.) on Friday, September 16.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first in the contest on a goal from Whitney Kramer, assisted by Emily Crane, in the 30th minute. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 1-0 at the half and quickly made the score 2-0 just nine minutes into the second half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Christina Reardon scored on an assist from Ashlie Watson.
Delta State answered as they tried to stay in the match. Less than a minute after Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made the score 2-0, Meredith Wilkes scored off a rebound to give the Lady Statesmen their only goal of the match.
The score remained 2-1 in favor of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ until the 75th minute when Eboni Murphy scored on an assist from Kramer. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added the final goal in the 88th minute when Watson scored on an assist by Reardon.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot the Lady Statesmen 18-6 in the match.
