Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s soccer drops second straight

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/3/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team dropped their second straight contest as they lost 4-0 to Notre Dame (Ohio) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ dropped to 1-3 on the season, while Notre Dame improved to 2-0.

Notre Dame finished last season as the NAIA National Tournament runner-up and ranked No. 2 in the NAIA after an undefeated regular season. That was Notre Dame’s final NAIA season as they are now in the provision stage of the NCAA DII membership process. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is playing in the final NAIA season this year.

Notre Dame scored two quick goals to start the match, both coming on headers. Erik Beattie recorded both goals, the first coming in the seventh minute and the second goal just five minutes later. Then with two minutes remaining in the half, Notre Dame added a third goal from Colton Tanner. Phillip Cutler and Kerr Newsbigging each recorded assists in the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed 3-0 at the break.

In the second half, Notre Dame’s Beattie got the hat trick with his third goal of the match just five minutes into the second half.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was outshot 18-8 in the match, including 11-4 in shots on goal.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s James Landham recorded six saves in the match, while Notre Dame’s Jan Skorupinski had two saves in his shutout effort.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road game on Tuesday, September 6 at Christian Brothers (Tenn.).
