JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/2/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team dropped a close match on Friday to Reinhardt (Ga.) College 2-1 in the first night of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Soccer Classic. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fell to 1-2 on the season, while Reinhardt improved to 2-0.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held a 1-0 halftime lead on a Pedro Rodrigues’ goal in the 36th minute of play. However, just over 11 minutes into the second half, Reinhardt’s John Connolly tied the match on a penalty kick after Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was call for a foul in the box. Then, just four minutes later, another foul on Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ deep in their own territory set up a very close free kick for Reinhardt. Jansen Berry connected for the game winning goal.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s James Landham, the reigning TranSouth Defensive Player of the Week, recorded three saves in his 90 minutes of work. Zach Schultz recorded seven saves for Reinhardt.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a 7 p.m. match on Saturday night versus Notre Dame (Ohio). Notre Dame defeated John Brown (Ark.) 4-3 in the opener of the classic on Friday night.
