JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/18/2011 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team has been picked to finish third in the . Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished last season with a 13-5-1 overall record while finishing in third place of both the TranSouth regular season and conference tournament.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also received votes in the as they earned 29 votes to put them at No. 32.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has 38 guys on the roster this year, including varsity and junior varsity players. Of those 38 players, 25 are returning after playing either varsity or junior varsity last season. Eleven players are returning that started at least four matches on the varsity team. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will also need to replace four players that started for the 2010 team. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ head coach Clovis Simas will use the 13 newcomers to the program to help fill the voids and to build the 2011 Bulldog team.
Ahead of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the poll was Bethel (Tenn.) in the top spot. Martin Methodist (Tenn.) was tied for second with Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, Mid-Continent (Ky.) was picked fourth, Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) fifth, Lyon (Ark.) sixth and Cumberland (Tenn.) seventh.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will begin play on Tuesday, August 23 with a home exhibition match versus Wallace State (Ala.) Community College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s first regular season game will be a road contest at Southern Polytechnic State (Ga.) on August 27. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s home opener will be Friday, September 2 versus Reinhardt (Ga.) as they begin play in the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Soccer Classic.
