Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Softball Players Honored, Gronberg is Pitcher of the Year

Jackson, Tenn. - 5/2/2003 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University’s Leah Gronberg was named the TranSouth Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year. Along with Gronberg, four other Lady Bulldogs, including Amy Mejia, Holly Haycraft, Megan Quarry, and Mary Kosco, were named to the All-Conference team.

, from College Station, Texas, has earned this award as a junior for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. This is her third season as a Lady Bulldog and each season has been just as good as the first. Gronberg is coming off NAIA All-American campaign and is in position to earn yet another All-American honor. This season, she is 21-6 with a 0.87 ERA. She has pitched 168.1 innings, started 29 games, tallied 23 complete games, and tossed nine shut outs. Gronberg has struck out 150 batters while walking just 38. Gronberg leads the TranSouth Conference in almost every pitching category.

, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s junior shortstop out of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, is second on the team with a .329 batting average. She has tallied 47 hits, nine doubles, two homeruns, and 25 RBI. Mejia made the transition from third base last season to shortstop this year. She made just nine errors in 157 chances (.943).

had an immediate impact for Coach Dunn’s Lady Bulldogs. As a freshman, she broke the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ record for stolen bases in a season. Haycraft currently stands at 41 steals in 43 attempts. The old record was 37 held by Izzi Luna back in 1999. Haycraft is 22 away from the career stolen base record at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. On the season, she hit .327 with an on base percentage of .425 out of the leadoff position. Haycraft led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 50 hits and added six double and two triples.

is Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s lone senior. She has been the Lady Bulldog catcher for the past two season’s after transferring in from Okaloosa Walton College. Quarry, from Decatur, Alabama, hit .312 with 43 hits, a team high 14 doubles, and 25 RBI. Behind the plate, she through out 7-of-16 (.437) would be base stealers.

is Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s other pitcher behind Gronberg. As a freshman, Kosco has a record of 18-5 with an ERA of 0.89. She started 23 games, threw 22 complete games, and tossed nine shut outs. Kosco struck out 139 batters and walked only 21 in 157.2 innings pitched. Kosco and Gronberg ranked either one or two in every TranSouth pitching category.
