Jackson, Tenn. - 4/24/2003 - Two Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball players were honored this week. Leah Gronberg was selected the TranSouth and NAIA Region XI Pitcher of the Week, while Holly Haycraft was named the TranSouth’s Co-Player of the Week. These two players helped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to a 6-0 week as they improved to 37-9 overall and 16-2 in the TranSouth. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also won their fifth straight NCCAA MidEast Region Championship along with clinching their fifth straight TranSouth Conference regular season title.
Gronberg, a junior from College Station, Texas, went 4-0 on the week to up her season record to 19-5. On the week, Gronberg pitched 23 innings giving up 12 hits and only two runs. She struck out 26 batters while only walking five with an ERA for the week of 0.00. Gronberg has posted her usual great number with an ERA of 0.80 in 157.1 innings pitched. She has 22 complete games, nine shutouts, 139 strike outs, and 36 walks on the year. Opponents are hitting just .185 against Gronberg.
Haycraft, a freshman from Dyersburg, Tennessee, topped off her record setting week with the co-player of the week honor. On the week, Haycraft went 7-for-18 (.388) with six runs, two triples, and three RBI. Haycraft went 2-for-3 in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s NCCAA regional championship win over Oakland City. Haycraft is batting .328 on the year and leads the TranSouth with 38 stolen bases and is second in runs scored with 35. Earlier in the week, Haycraft broke Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s record with her 37th stolen base of the year. She will no doubt continue to add to that record.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is currently playing in the NCCAA National Tournament in Marion, Indiana. The Lady Bulldogs are looking for their third consecutive NCCAA National Title.
