JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/18/2011 - The No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball team rallied for a 7-4 win over Lyon (Ark.) College on Friday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 19-4 on the season and 4-0 in league play. Lyon dropped to 11-13 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Lyon jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first when three of the first four batters reached base. Jim Gossett’s two-RBI single did the damage for Lyon.
The score remained 1-0 until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted a tally in the third and then took the lead with three runs in the fourth. A two-RBI double by Danny Grimm capped off the fourth and gave Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ their first lead. Lyon added a run in the fifth and another in the eighth, while Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored single runs in each the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Cole McAdams homered for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to lead off the seventh inning. He finished the game leading Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with three hits in five at-bats, with two RBI and one run scored. Brett Pawlen, Kian Jost and Doug Joyce each added two hits. Grimm added two RBI.
Jeremey Stack earned the win with eight innings of work, allowing nine hits and striking out nine batters. Matt Fike earned the save with a perfect ninth inning and one strike out.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Lyon will complete the three-game series on Saturday with a double-header starting at noon.
