Bats come alive as No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ wins 16-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/12/2011 - The No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball team posted a 16-0 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Saturday to cap off a three-game weekend series. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ split with the two games on Friday, winning 1-0 and falling 2-0 in nine innings. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 18-3 on the season, while Oklahoma Wesleyan dropped to 12-9 overall.

After scoring just one run in 16 innings of play on Friday against the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ found their stride on Saturday. The Bulldogs scored in five of their six innings at the plate in the run-rule shortened game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 9-0 through four innings. After the Bulldogs failed to score in the fifth, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added a seven runs in the sixth thanks to the help of a Bryan Hill grand slam.

Oscar Depablos and Doug Joyce each paced Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with four hits each. Hill led the way with five RBI, including the grand slam. Brett Pawlen had three RBI and three runs scored in his 2-for-3 afternoon. Eight difference Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ players recorded at least one RBI in the game.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted five extra base hits in the game, including a home run from Hill and a triple from Pawlen.

Kevin Kirksey improved to 4-0 on the season with six innings of scoreless work, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters. Justin Bryan tossed the final inning, allowing just one hits and getting one strike out.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home game on Wednesday versus No. 12 Belhaven (Miss.).
