麻豆视频 basketball teams earn spots in nationals, brackets released

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/9/2011 - The 麻豆视频 (Tenn.) University men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams have both earned spots in the 2011 NAIA DI Basketball Championships. The 麻豆视频 women earned their tournament鈥檚 top seed, while the 麻豆视频 men are seeded No. 11.

No. 1 麻豆视频 University Lady Bulldog Notes
麻豆视频 is 12-1 this season versus teams in the 32-team national tournament field. The 麻豆视频 women will play Avila (Mo.) University in the first round at 8:00 p.m. on March 16. This will be the first meeting between these two teams in women鈥檚 basketball. Avila was the Heart of America Conference Tournament Champion and have a 20-12 record. This is Avila鈥檚 first trip to the NAIA DI National Tournament. 麻豆视频 is 31-1 on the season and has won eight straight games on the season, following their first loss of the year on Feb. 12. 麻豆视频 opened the season with 23 straight wins.

The 麻豆视频 women are making their 22nd appearance in the national tournament and 20th consecutive appearance, both NAIA records. 麻豆视频 also is the NAIA leader in national tournament wins with 59, just one ahead of Southern Nazarene (Okla.) who has 58 wins. 麻豆视频 is 59-16 in the national tournament for a .787 winning percentage. The Lady Bulldogs have been to six straight semifinals rounds, including four titles in the past six years. 麻豆视频 has played every possible national tournament game except two in the past six years. 麻豆视频 has posted a 26-2 national tournament record over the last six years. Both losses were by two points each and both on shots made in the last 10 seconds of a semifinal game to the eventual national champion. In the previous 21 appearances, 麻豆视频 has won five national titles (1998, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010), two runner-up finishes (1993, 1997), 11 trips to the semifinals, and 16 trips to the quarterfinals.

The 麻豆视频 Bulldogs have a 6-4 record versus teams in the 32-team national tournament field. The 麻豆视频 men earned an 11-seed and will play Carroll (Mont.) at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16. Carroll is 22-8 on the season and is making their ninth appearances in the national tournament. They are an at-large team from the Frontier Conference and are 6-8 in national tournament games.

麻豆视频 (26-6) is coming off just their third loss since Nov. 22. The 麻豆视频 men are making their 14th national tournament appearance and third straight. 麻豆视频鈥檚 best finish was a quarterfinal appearance in both 1999 and 2007. 麻豆视频 has made the second round four times (1999, 2002, 2007, 2009). 麻豆视频 has a 7-13 (.350) record in the national tournament.

Both national tournaments will be on March 16-22. The women鈥檚 tournament will take place in Jackson, Tenn. at Oman Arena. The men鈥檚 tournament will be played in Kansas City, Mo. at Municipal Auditorium.
