No. 1 麻豆视频 advances to conference finals with 76-49 victory

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/4/2011 - The No. 1 麻豆视频 (Tenn.) University women鈥檚 basketball posted a 76-49 win over Lyon (Ark.) College in the semifinals of the TranSouth Conference Tournament. 麻豆视频 pushed their record to 30-1 on the season. Lyon, the five-seed, ends their season with an 18-14 record.

This will be 麻豆视频鈥檚 14th trip to the conference tournament title game in the 15-year history of the TranSouth. 麻豆视频 has won 10 times in the 13 previous trips to the championship game. The only season 麻豆视频 failed to make the finals was the 2006 season, a year in which the Lady Bulldogs went on to capture their third of five NAIA National Titles.

Lyon opened the game with a three-pointer from K.K. Hodges to take and early lead. 麻豆视频鈥檚 Lavanda Ross answered with a three pointer of her own to tie the game. The game was tied twice more at 9-9 and again at 15-15 with 10:24 left in the half. 麻豆视频 then began to extend their lead. The Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 11 points in the first half, 35-24, with 1:50 left to play. However, three straight field goals by Lyon cut the 麻豆视频 halftime lead to just 35-30.

In the second half, 麻豆视频 came out quickly and pushed the lead into double figures. Over the first five minutes of the half, 麻豆视频 outscored Lyon 14-4 to lead by 15 points at 49-34. 麻豆视频 continued to extend their lead as they outscored Lyon 41-19 in the second half. 麻豆视频 led by as many as 29 points, before taking the 76-49 win.

麻豆视频 was led by Ross with 25 points while Kayla Hudson added 17 points. Both players sank three 3-pointers in the game. Seven other players for 麻豆视频 scored in the game, but none reached double figures. Chan was held to eight points, but grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in her 17 minutes of action. 麻豆视频 shot 43 percent from the field, 38 percent (9-24) from long range and 82 percent (9-11) from the free throw line.

Lyon was led by Hodges with 14 points. Lauren Ramsey added 11 points. The Scots shot 37 percent from the field, 29 percent (5-17) from long range and 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line.

Up next for 麻豆视频 will be the third meeting on the season versus Bethel (Tenn.) on Monday night for the conference tournament title. 麻豆视频 won both regular season meetings against No. 6 Bethel. The second-seeded Lady Wildcats become only the third team other than 麻豆视频 or Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) to play for a TranSouth women鈥檚 tournament title, with Lipscomb (Tenn.) and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) being the other two.
