JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/2/2011 - The No. 24 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University softball team split a pair of conference games at Bethel (Tenn.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won the first game 9-0 in five innings, before falling in the second game 3-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is now 7-1 on the season and 3-1 in the TranSouth. Bethel is now 4-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.
In the first game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored in all five innings as they won the run-rule game 9-0. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got started with a run in the first and then three more in the second. After scoring one run each in the third and fourth innings, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added three more in the fifth to seal the win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got home runs from Brittany Burkett and Shelby Lamb. Miranda Mullen led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with three hits. Burkett led the way with three RBI, all coming on a pinch hit home run. The reigning conference pitcher of the week, Brooke Thomas (4-0), produced another impressive performance with four innings of two-hit ball. Selmer native Caroline George saw her first action of the season and her career after missing all of last season with an injury. George tossed a perfect fifth inning with two strikeouts.
Game two had several missed opportunities as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out-hit Bethel 8-6 and was helped by an error and two walks, but could not score. Bethel’s Jennifer Townson did all the damage herself as she was 2-for-3 in the game with all three Bethel RBI. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Tobie Joy led the Lady Bulldogs with three hits.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Classic on Friday and Saturday at Fesmire Field.
