No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ baseball gets sweep over Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/1/2011 - The No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball team posted a double-header sweep over Lane (Tenn.) College, winning 10-0 in the first game and 9-0 in game two. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 12-2 on the season, while Lane dropped to 0-5.

In the first game, Bryan Hill led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with a 3-for-3 day, including the team’s first home run of the season. Hill added three RBI and two runs scored to spark Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s offense. Kian Jost led with four RBI in the game, while Oscar Depablos, Doug Joyce and Jost added two hits each. Kevin Kirksey (2-0) earned the win, tossing four innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits and striking out seven. Benjie Fesmire tossed the final inning of perfect relief.

The second game produced a near no-hitter as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ starter Derek Roof (3-0) tossed five innings of no-hit ball with seven strikeouts. Davis Leisey pitched a perfect sixth inning but allowed a lead-off single in the seventh. Leisey allowed just one hit and struck out two batters in his two innings of relief. Hill Joyce and Fesmire each recorded two hits in the game, while Joyce led the way with two RBI. Eight different Bulldogs posted at least one hit in the game.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their first conference games of the season as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ travels to Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Friday and Saturday for a three game series.
