Kevin Kirksey

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/25/2011 - The No. 16 Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Tenn.) University baseball team suffered their first loss of the season 10-5 to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College. Â鶹ÊÓƵ dropped to 9-1 on the season, while Lindsey Wilson improved to 6-3.

Lindsey Wilson struck first with two runs in the first inning, one unearned. The Blue Raiders then added six runs in the top of the second to lead 8-0. Two more of the runs were unearned as Â鶹ÊÓƵ starter Jeremy Stack (2-1) was not able to pitch out of trouble. Lindsey Wilson recorded two hits in the first and five more in the second to surround the two Â鶹ÊÓƵ errors.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ added a run in the bottom of the second to get on the board. An RBI single from Kevin Kirksey drove in Bryan Hill, who singled to lead off the inning. Lindsey Wilson added a run in the third and another in the eighth to lead 10-1. Â鶹ÊÓƵ scored in the bottom of the eighth when RJ Rayborn drove in Martin Key on a single.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Â鶹ÊÓƵ rallied with mostly reserves in the batting order. A hit by Tim Anderson, four Lindsey Wilson walks and a sacrifice fly from Rayborn helped Â鶹ÊÓƵ tally three runs in the frame. But the deficit was too much as the Bulldogs fell 10-5

Â鶹ÊÓƵ managed eight hits from eight different players. Rayborn led with two RBI in the game. Stack tossed just 1.2 innings, allowing six hits, eight runs, five earned with two walks and one strikeout. Matt Fike and Benjie Fesmire tossed 7.1 innings of combined relief, allowing just two runs on four hits. Fesmire tossed the last three innings, allowing just one hit and a run.

Daniel Pulliam (2-0) of Lindsey Wilson earned the win, tossing seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and five strikeouts.

The same two teams will play a double-header on Saturday, Feb. 26 at noon at Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Fesmire Field.
