JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/21/2011 - The No. 11 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball posted a 73-40 win over Lyon (Ark.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 24-5 on the season and 13-2 in the TranSouth. Lyon dropped to 7-19 overall and 1-13 in league play.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Shane Burrell got the scoring started for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as his basket sparked a 4-0 run to start the game. After a three pointer from Antoine Joseph, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 9-2 after just two and a half minutes of play. Lyon rallied back and with 11:07 left in the half, tied the game at 16-16. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ then went on a 15-0 run that put the Bulldogs up 31-16 with just 1:13 left in the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 34-20 at the break.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opened the second half just as they closed out the first. The Bulldogs scored the first 24 points of the second half as they extended their lead to 55-20. Lyon did not managed their first points of the second half until Aaron Farris made two free throws at the 9:42 mark. The Scots’ first field goal of the second half came on a basket from Zain Hopper with 7:03 left in the game. The Bulldogs led by as many as 35 points in the game as they cruised down the stretch to win 73-40.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Antoine Joseph with 18 points, including 15 points in the second half. Stan McNeil added 17 points and CJ Davis scored 16 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 40 percent from the field, 31 percent (8-26) from behind the arc and 79 percent (15-19) from the free throw line.
Lyon was led by Kip Kelley with 12 points and Aaron Farris scored eight points. The Scots shot 27 percent from the field, seven percent (1-14) from long range and 77 percent (13-17) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be the final regular season game of the year. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) on Thursday, February 24 at 8:00 p.m.
