JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/15/2011 - The Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Tenn.) University basketball teams are ranked in the latest NAIA polls released on Monday, February 14. Despite suffering their first loss of the season, Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s women remain the No. 1 team in the NAIA for an NAIA record 45 straight polls. The Â鶹ÊÓƵ men moved up two spots to No. 14.
The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Bulldogs now have 21 wins on the season to just five loss. The Bulldogs are 10-2 in the TranSouth, just one game back of the league leader Martin Methodist (Tenn.). Â鶹ÊÓƵ does not hold the tie-breaker over Martin Methodist, so the Bulldogs will need some help if they hope to win a third straight conference regular season title. Â鶹ÊÓƵ still looks to maintain one of the top season in the conference tournament coming up in March.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s women lost their first game of the season on Saturday, but rebounded on Monday with a win to move to 24-1 on the season. No other NAIA team has fewer that two losses in the NAIA women’s standings. Â鶹ÊÓƵ (11-1) maintains a one game lead in the conference standings with just four games left to be played in the regular season. Â鶹ÊÓƵ has won each of the past four TranSouth regular season titles. In the 14-year history of the TranSouth, Â鶹ÊÓƵ has won 11 regular season titles and was a co-champion one season.
Up next for the Â鶹ÊÓƵ basketball teams will be a home conference double-header on Thursday, February 17 versus Mid-Continent (Ky.). The women will play at 6:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 8:00 p.m.
