No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ baseball sweeps St. Catharine in double-header

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/14/2011 - The No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University baseball team posted a double-header sweep over St. Catharine (Ky.) College on Monday, 5-2 in game one and 7-1 in the second game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 4-0 on the season, while St. Catharine dropped to 1-5 overall.

In the first game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Bryan Hill. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fell behind when St. Catharine added a pair of runs in the top of the second. The Bulldogs responded with a runs in the third on a Kian Jost RBI single, and then followed that up with three runs in the fourth. A two-RBI single from Doug Joyce, and another RBI hit from Hill helped put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on top for good. Derek Roof (1-0) settled in after the two-run second inning, allowing just six hits total and just the two runs in 4.2 innings of work. Cody Dew (1) earned the save with 2.1 innings of work, allowing just one hit and no runs in relief. Joyce and Hill each led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with two hits and two RBI.

Game two was tied 1-1 through three innings of play after Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ again scored in the bottom of the first inning and St. Catharine tied the game in the third. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored six times over the next three innings to put the game out of reach. Kevin Kirksey led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with two hits, while five other Bulldogs tallied one hit each. RJ Rayborn led with two RBI, both coming on sacrifice flies. Six different Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ players recorded an RBI in the second game. Jared Davis (1-0), the sophomore from Jackson, tossed five innings, allowing just four hits and one run with five strikeouts. Matt Fike tossed the final two innings of shutout relief.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be four games this weekend. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will play games against Missouri Baptist at 1 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will also play Huntington (Ind.) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
