HENDERSON, Tenn. – - 2/12/2011 - The No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team topped Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University on the road 93-82. With the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 20-5 on the season and 9-2 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings, dropped to 16-9 overall and 8-3 in league play.
The win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also broke a tie with Freed-Hardeman for second place in the league standings. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sits just one game back of No. 9 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (10-1), but does not hold the tie-breaker.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first with a basket from Antoine Joseph, but the home Lions responded with six straight to lead 6-2. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallied to tie the game at 6-6, before Freed-Hardeman stretched their lead back to as many as six points, 19-13, with 12:45 left in the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ answered with a 32-13 run to close out the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 15 points twice in the first half, before taking the 45-32 lead into the locker room.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 58 percent from the field in the first half, including 4-of-11 three pointers.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued their hot shooting, including 53 percent from the field and 56 percent (10-18) from long range. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to as many as 22 points, 59-37, with a 14-5 run to start the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by 22 points twice in the second half with the latest coming 62-40 with 13:43 left in the game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained a double-figure lead for the rest of the game. Freed-Hardeman got as close as 10 points late in the game before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the 93-82 final.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by CJ Davis with a game-high 21 points. Antoine Hall added 20 points, while Stan McNeil added 17 points, both sinking five three pointers in the game. Shane Burrell posted his eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Skyler Vaden added 11 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 55 percent from the field, 48 percent (14-29) from behind the arc and 63 percent (17-27) from the free throw line.
Freed-Hardeman was led by Kyle Teichman and Cedric Austin with 15 points each. James Haddix, Anthony Sampson and Michael Young each added 10 points. The Lions shot 43 percent from the field, 31 percent (10-32) from long range and 83 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.
