No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ties consecutive regular season wins record at 43

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 1/27/2011 - The No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team posted an 83-56 win at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 21-0 on the season and 8-0 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene dropped to 7-11 overall and 4-3 in league play.

The win helped Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tie a school record with 43 straight regular season wins dating back to a loss to St. Xavier (Ill.) in December of 2009. The win also marked the 59th straight TranSouth regular season victory, 26th road win and 26th straight overall win.

Trevecca Nazarene took an early 5-2 lead following a three pointer from Rachel Bollinger. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ responded with a 10-0 run to lead 12-5 with 15:57 left. After the Trojans cut their deficit to 12-8, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ pulled away with a 22-5 run. Kayla Bryant drained three first-half 3-pointers to spark the Lady Bulldogs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 34-13 with 3:42 left in the half, before Trevecca Nazarene cut the halftime scored down to 35-20.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 52 percent from the field in the first half, including 63 percent (5-8) from three point range.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ extending their lead to as many as 32 points on three different occasions. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sank five more three points and shot 53 percent from the field in the second half.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Sarah Chan with 22 points and 10 rebounds for her tenth double-double of the season. Lavanda Ross added 17 points, Bryant scored 12 points and Kayla Hudson added 10 points. Hope Adams grabbed 10 rebounds to go with her eight points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 53 percent from the field, 44 percent (10-23) from behind the arc and 53 percent (9-17) from the free throw line.

Trevecca Nazarene was led by Elie London with 24 points. Rachel Bollinger added 15 points. The Trojans shot 33 percent from the field, 24 percent (5-21) from three point range and 82 percent (9-11) from the free throw line.

This was the final game for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the first half of the conference season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will off on Saturday before playing their next game at home against No. 8 Bethel (Tenn.) on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 6:00 p.m.
