No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 20-0 with home court victory

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/22/2011 - The No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team posted a 79-43 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 20-0 on the season and 7-0 in the TranSouth. Blue Mountain dropped to 4-13 overall and 0-6 in league play.

The win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was their 25th straight victory overall. It was their 58th straight TranSouth regular season win and was their 42nd straight regular season win overall. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is just one win shy of tying the school record for 43 straight regular season wins.

Blue Mountain started the scoring with a basket from Joy Pierce in the first minute of play. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ responded with six straight points to take the lead for good. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Blue Mountain both struggled early to score as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held a slim 20-16 lead with 9:21 left in the half. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ freshman Paige Parker sank one of her four first-half three pointers to spark a 12-0 run for the Lady Bulldogs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ closed out the final 9:21 of the half by outscoring Blue Mountain 31-7 to lead 51-23 at the break.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Sarah Chan reached double-double numbers in the first 20 minutes with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 35 points on three different occasions before winning by 36 points, 79-43. Chan added 14 more points in the second half.

Chan led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 26 points and 13 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Kayla Hudson added 14 points, including four three pointers, and eight assists. Parker finished with 13 points on four three pointers, while Hope Adams pitched in 11 points. Lavanda Ross pulled down 12 rebounds. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot just 36 percent from the field and 29 percent (9-31) from long range. The Lady Bulldogs sank 14-of-19 free throws for 74 percent.

Blue Mountain was led by Pierce with 17 points. Erin Parrish added eight points. The Toppers shot 28 percent from the field, 27 percent (8-30) from behind the arc and 60 percent (3-5) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road game on Thursday, Jan. 27 at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.).
