MAYFIELD, Ky. - 1/17/2011 - The No. 16 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team posted a 92-77 win at Mid-Continent (Ky.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 15-4 overall and 4-1 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 8-10 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
The win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was their third straight victory and second straight game with at least 90 points.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sophomore guard CJ Davis took control for the Bulldogs in the first half with five three pointers and 21 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a 49-30 halftime advantage. Antoine Hall added 11 first half points, including three 3-pointers. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made 9-of-17 three pointers in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 20 points twice. Mid-Continent used the three -pointer to keep Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in reach. With 43 seconds left, Mid-Continent capped an 8-2 run with a three pointer from Tim Bryant to cut Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s lead to 86-77. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was 6-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the 92-77 win.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led with five players in double figures. Davis finished with a career high 27 points. Stan McNeil added 15 points, Antoine Hall scored 14 points, Shane Burrell added 13 points and Antoine Joseph scored 12 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 50 percent from the field, 48 percent (13-27) from behind the arc and 79 percent (23-29) from the free throw line.
Mid-Continent was led by Brian Reid with 18 points and Chris Ferguson with 17 points. Ferguson added 19 rebounds to complete his double-double. Tim Bryant added 16 points and Antonio Davis scored 10 points. The Cougars shot 39 percent from the field, 25 percent (7-28) from behind the arc and 60 percent (12-20) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home game on Thursday, Jan. 20 versus Cumberland (Tenn.) in an early clash for second place.
