No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ gets win at Mid-Continent, win streak at 23

MAYFIELD, Ky. - 1/17/2011 - The No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team posted a 98-55 win at Mid-Continent (Ky.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 18-0 on the season and 5-0 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 0-17 overall and 0-4 in league play.

The win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was their 23rd overall, 56th straight TranSouth regular season win and 25th straight road win.

Mid-Continent jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead but the top ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs took control. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outscored the Lady Cougars 58-27 in the first half.

The second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added 40 more points to cruise to the 98-55 win.

All nine players for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored in the game, while eight players reached double figures. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led Kayla Hudson and Mildred Olumasi with 14 points each. Hope Adams and Rebecca Sharpe scored 12 points, while Adams added 10 boards for her seventh double-double of the season. LaTesa McLaughlin, Paige Parker and Beatrice Duol each scored 11 points, while Duol added 12 boards for her first double-double of the season. Sarah Chan scored 10 points. Sharpe, Parker and Olumasi each set new career highs in the win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 50 percent from the field, 37 percent (13-35) from three point range and 75 percent (9-12) from the free throw line.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Lavanda Ross sat out of the contest in order to get extra rest as she has recently returned from surgery. This marked the third game for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in a stretch of five games in 10 days.

Mid-Continent was led by Stephanie Malone with 13 points and Heather George with 12 points. The Lady Cougars shot 27 percent from the field, 18 percent (3-16) from behind the arc and 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home game on Thursday, January 20 versus Cumberland (Tenn.) at 6:00 p.m.
