BATESVILLE, Ark. - 1/13/2011 - The No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team posted a 65-52 win at Lyon (Ark.) College. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 16-0 on the season and 3-0 in the TranSouth with their 21st straight victory dating back to last season. Lyon, who is receiving votes in the NAIA rankings, dropped to 10-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also marked their 54th straight TranSouth regular season win and 24th straight win on the road.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first and jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead on the Lyon Scots. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ matched that nine point lead several times early in the half, before Lyon began to rally. The Scots cut the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lead down to just three points, 22-19, with 6:08 left in the half. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outscored Lyon 12-3 over the final six minutes to lead 34-22 at the half.
In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained a comfortable double-digit lead. Lyon got as close as 10 points, while Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 16 points on three different occasions in the second half.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Kayla Hudson led all scorers with 26 points, including four three pointers. Lavanda Ross scored 13 points, Hope Adams added 12 points and Sarah Chan scored 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 41 percent from the field, 31 percent (4-13) from three point range and 52 percent (13-25) from the free throw line.
Lyon was led by K.K. Hodges and Christine Smith with 13 points each. Smith was 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Suzanne Fincham led with a game-high 10 rebounds. Lyon shot 35 percent from the field, 39 percent (7-18) from behind the arc and 55 percent (11-20) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home contest versus No. 5 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
