Chan鈥檚 30 leads No. 1 麻豆视频 past No. 21 Shorter 90-45

JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/9/2010 - The No. 1 麻豆视频 (Tenn.) University women鈥檚 basketball team used a big first half to cruise past No. 21 Shorter (Ga.) University 90-45. 麻豆视频 improved to 11-0 overall, while Shorter (8-1) dropped their first game of the year.

麻豆视频 improved to 8-0 versus ranked team on the season. 麻豆视频 is also 68-1 in their last 69 home.

Senior All-American Sarah Chan exploded for 22 points and 10 rebounds in the first half to help 麻豆视频 run out to the 56-26 halftime advantage. Chan, the reigning TranSouth Player of the Week, finished with a career high 30 points in the contest.

麻豆视频 shot 63 percent from the field, including 67 percent (6-9) from behind the arc in the first half.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to 7-0 lead before Shorter got on the board. 麻豆视频 led 12-7 when the Lady Bulldogs posted a 9-0 run and continued to pull away in the first half. 麻豆视频 held their largest first half lead of 54-23 with 16 seconds left following a three pointer from Rebecca Sharpe. 麻豆视频 held a 56-26 halftime advantage.

In the second half, 麻豆视频 scored just 34 points but held Shorter to only 19 in the final 20 minutes. 麻豆视频 extended their lead to as many as 46 points (77-31) with 9:45 left in the game. 麻豆视频 finished with the 90-45 final.

In 麻豆视频鈥檚 11 games on the season, eight have been against team ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA poll. 麻豆视频 has held all but one team to 66 points or less. Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) scored 88 points in a loss to 麻豆视频, but was held to 11 points below their NAIA best 99 points per game average.

Chan鈥檚 30 led four 麻豆视频 players in double figures. Hope Adams scored 23 points, LaTesa McLaughlin added 15 points with five three pointers, and Kayla Hudson scored 11 points. Chan finished with 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season and fourth straight. 麻豆视频 shot 51 percent from the field, 42 percent (11-26) from behind the arc and was a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe.

Shorter was led by Damisha Moore with 11 points. The Hawks shot 26 percent from the field, 26 percent from three point range and 90 percent (9-10) from the free throw line.

Up next for 麻豆视频 will be another matchup against a ranked team at No. 4 Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. central. 麻豆视频 is currently 5-0 versus top-10 teams.
