No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rallies again for tough road win

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - 12/4/2010 - The No. 1 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team rallied again to win 96-88 at Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 10-0 on the season, while Olivet dropped to 6-3. Olivet is receiving votes in the NAIA preseason rankings.

This was the third straight game for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to trail at the half on the road, but all three times Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was able to produce second half rallies to earn the wins.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed 50-40 at the break to Olivet Nazarene, a team that plays a very high tempo style of offense. Olivet leads the NAIA, averaging 99 points per game on the season. The Tigers played 16 players in the game tonight to try to push past Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ exploded for 56 points to overtake the Tigers. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 67 percent from the field and 50 percent (5-10) from three point range in the second half to spark the rally.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Sarah Chan with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Kayla Hudson added 25 points, including 7-of-9 three pointers. Hudson also added eight assists. Lavanda Ross added 14 points, while Hope Adams recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 52 percent from the field, 44 percent (11-25) and 77 percent (13-17) from the free throw line.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Chan was named the MVP of the Olivet Classic, while Ross joined Chan on the all-tournament team.

Olivet played 16 players in the game, with 12 players scoring. The Tigers were led by Danielle Tolbert with 16 points and Simone Coburn with 13 points. Olivet shot 85 total shots for 38 percent shooting from the field. The Tigers added 33 percent (15-45) from behind the arc and 64 percent (9-14) from the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a home game on Thursday, Dec. 9 against Shorter (Ga.), who is receiving votes.
