JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/27/2010 - The No. 10 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team posted an 84-65 win over Tougaloo (Miss.) College. The second straight win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved their record to 5-3 on the season. Tougaloo, who is receiving votes in the NAIA preseason poll, dropped to 7-2 overall.
Tougaloo opened the game with a basket from James Carter, but that lead was short-lived. Stan McNeil drained one of his three 3-pointers to put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on top for good. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to a 13-4 lead and led by as many as 17 points (33-16) with 5:56 left to in the half. Tougaloo cut the deficit down to nine points, before Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ stretched their cushion back to 12 points at the half, 41-29.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ maintained the double digit lead for the entire second half, going up by as many as 29 points, 80-51 at the 2:31 mark.
Tougaloo converted 20 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ turnovers into 25 points, but still could not keep in range of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. The Bulldogs of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out-rebounded Tougaloo 58-41 in the game and held Tougaloo to just 26 percent shooting from the field.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by CJ Davis with 19 points, including 3-of-7 from behind the arc. Shane Burrell posted his second straight double-double with 13 points and season high 17 rebounds. Samuel Danache scored 13 points, McNeil added 11 points, while Antoine Hall scored 10 points. Roland Banhoro grabbed 10 rebounds. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 40 percent from the field, 44 percent (10-23) from three-point range and 78 percent (32-41) from the free throw line.
Tougaloo was led by Marquise Mems with 24 points, while Carter added 14 points. Tougaloo shot 26 percent from the field, 22 percent (8-36) and 68 percent (15-22) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be an opportunity for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to avenge an earlier loss when the Bulldogs host William Carey (Miss.) on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
