All-American trio lifts No. 1 麻豆视频 over Tougaloo, 91-62

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/27/2010 - The No. 1 麻豆视频 (Tenn.) University women鈥檚 basketball team posted a 91-62 win over Tougaloo (Miss.) College. 麻豆视频 improved to 7-0 on the season, while Tougaloo dropped to 4-7 overall.

Senior All-Americans Kayla Hudson and Zeinab Chan, along with junior All-American Lavanda Ross provided almost 70 percent of the 麻豆视频 offense in the win. The trio posted 63 of 麻豆视频鈥檚 91 points. Hudson's seven three pointers was just three off the school record of 10 held by Crystal Eason (2006) and Mary Catharine Way (2002).

For 麻豆视频, this was just their third game of the season versus a team that was not either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA preseason rankings. All five of 麻豆视频鈥檚 remaining non-conference games are against teams that are in the preseason polls. 麻豆视频 will play seven of the remaining nine top-10 teams, including three of the top-5. 麻豆视频 is already 4-0 this season against ranked teams.

The first five minutes of play produced two ties and three lead changes as 麻豆视频 tried to shake off the rust from a week off. At the 14:49 mark, the game was tied 12-12. Hudson sank one of her seven three pointers to give 麻豆视频 the lead for good. That shot also sparked a 17-7 run that pushed the 麻豆视频 lead up to 10 points. Tougaloo kept the game close for the remainder of the half, cutting the deficit down to just three points, 34-31 with 2:28 left. However, 麻豆视频 scored the final seven points of the half to lead 41-31 at the break.

In the second half, 麻豆视频 pushed the lead out to 16 points at the 14:18 mark, 52-36. Tougaloo posted a 7-0 run to cut the 麻豆视频 lead to just nine points. However, a quick basket from Chan on the next possession put 麻豆视频 back up by double-digits. 麻豆视频 extended the lead up to 27 points, 74-47, with 7:24 left in the game. 麻豆视频 would lead by as many as 31 points, before taking the 91-62 final.

麻豆视频 was led by Chan with 22 points and seven rebounds in the game. Hudson added 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from three-point range, while Ross added 20 points. Beatrice Duol scored 10 points off the bench. 麻豆视频 shot 57 percent from the field, 42 percent (11-26) from behind the arc and 83 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.

Tougaloo was led by Victoria Jones with a game-high 23 points, while Erica Grayson scored 13 points. Tougaloo shot 41 percent from the field, 37 percent (7-19) from behind the arc and 69 percent (11-16) from the free throw line.
