No. 10 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ snaps skid with 87-75 win over No. 8 McKendree

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/26/2010 - The No. 10 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team ended a three-game losing skid with an 87-75 win over No. 8 McKendree (Ill.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 4-3 on the season, while McKendree falls to 3-6 overall.

This game for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was the fifth in a stretch of eight straight games against teams either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA preseason rankings. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 2-3 in those five games thus far.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led by as many as 22 points in the second half, included a 21-point lead (87-66) with 2:14 left in the game. McKendree closed the game with an 11-0 run.

The first nine minutes were back-and-forth with four ties and five lead changes. McKendree held a slim 12-11 lead after leading by as many as three points, 9-6. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ then scored seven straight to take the lead for good. McKendree cut the deficit down to two points at 18-16 with 7:46 left, but got no closer.

Over the final 7:46 of the first half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outscored McKendree 20-9, including a two separate 8-0 runs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 38-25 at the half.

In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ kept the lead in double figures for the duration. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ matched their biggest lead of 22 points at 56-34 thanks to a 18-9 run over the first five minutes of the second half.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ boasted five players in double figures. Antoine Hall, Antoine Joseph and Shan Burrell each posted 13 points. Burrell tallied his first double-double at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with 11 rebounds. Skyler Vaden and Roland Banhoro each scored 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ season scoring leader, CJ Davis, scored nine points, while Samuel Danache added eight on a very balanced scoring night for the Bulldogs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 48 percent from the field, 36 percent (9-25) from behind the arc and 62 percent (8-13) from the free throw line.

McKendree was led by Sean Rakers with a game-high 28 points. Andy Wolff added 12 points. The Bearcats shot 42 percent from the field, 35 percent (6-17) and 77 percent (17-22) from the charity stripe.

Up next for the Bulldogs will be the final game of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Thanksgiving Classic against Tougaloo (Miss.) on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 6:00 p.m. The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women will play Tougaloo at 4:00 p.m. Freed-Hardeman and McKendree’s men open the final day of the classic at 2:00 p.m.
