JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/12/2010 - The No. 10 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team posted an 86-67 win over Missouri Baptist University on Friday night in the McKendree (Ill.) Classic. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 2-0 on the season, while Missouri Baptist dropped to 1-3 overall.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ expanded their five-point halftime lead with a dominating second half to win by 19 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outscored the Spartans 49-35 in the final 20 minutes.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by newcomers CJ Davis and Skyler Vaden. The red-shirt sophomore Davis scored a game-high 19 points, while junior transfer Skyler Vaden added 18 points. Roland Banhoro scored 10 points for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ also. The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field, 44 percent (8-18) from three-point range and 69 percent (22-32) from the free throw line.
Missouri Baptist was led by Danzell Gatewood with 18 points. Kenny Democuchet added 15 points and LeAndre Johnson added 12 points. The Spartans shot 41 percent from the field, 17 percent (2-12) from behind the arc and 57 percent (13-23) from the free throw line.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a matchup with No. 8 McKendree in the final game of the McKendree Classic. This game starts a stretch of eight straight games against teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA preseason rankings for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
