Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men’s soccer in semifinals after PK shootout with Lyon

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/6/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Lyon (Ark.) College in the first round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament. In the shootout, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won 5-4 to advance to the semifinals to face top seeded Bethel (Tenn.) on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made good on all five penalty kicks in the shootout, with the clincher coming from goalie Rainer Hauss. Hauss recorded the only stop in the PK round on Lyon’s first attempt.

In the seventh minute of play, Lyon took the quick lead on a goal from Serhiy Zhykin. Lyon held the 1-0 lead until Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tied the match with 33 seconds left before the half on a goal from Brian Castro.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie Rainer Hauss recorded six saves in the match on the seven shots on goal he faced. Matthew Kelley recorded four saves on the five Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shots on goal. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot Lyon 18-12, but it was Lyon with the 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
