Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s soccer advances to semifinals with 2-1 win over Bethel

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/6/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s soccer advanced to the semifinals of the TranSouth Conference Tournament with a 2-1 win over Bethel (Tenn.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 9-6-2 on the season, while Bethel ends their season at 3-14.

This marks the fifth straight trip to the semifinal round of the conference tournament. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 0-4 in the previous four appearances. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will face top seeded and NAIA No. 4 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

In the first round win over Bethel, all the scoring took place in the first 30 minutes of play, including two goals in the first 20 minutes. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ struck first with a goal from Elizabeth Cochran in the 16th minute, assisted by Kelsey Gilbert. Bethel tied the match just four minutes later with a goal from Deslyan Langeigne. Then, in the 30th minute of play, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Samantha Gase posted the game-winner, putting the Lady Bulldogs up 2-1.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got eight of the 12 total second half shots between both teams, but neither could find the back of the net.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ out shot Bethel 12-7 in the match, and 6-4 in shots on goal. Sarah White recorded three saves in the win. Jessica Coates recorded four saves, all coming in the second half.
