NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 11/5/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University men’s and women’s cross country teams captured first place in the NAIA Qualifying Meet. The titles give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s teams automatic bids to the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on Nov. 20 in Vancouver, Wash. This meet including teams from the TranSouth Conference, Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and Independents for a total of 10 teams.
In the women’s race, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished in first place with five runners finishing in the top seven in the 5K event. Blue Mountain (Miss.) finished second, while Xavier (La.) finished in third. Other TranSouth teams included Bethel (Tenn.) in fourth, Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in seventh and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) in tenth.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Allison Martin won the individual title with a time of 19:40. Ashlee Stewart finished third (20:08), Hannah Clardy fourth (20:10), Kayla Hauss sixth (20:40), Carissa Wilson seventh (20:43), Carrie Moore (21:20), Lilli Harmon (21:36) and Cally Howell 31st (23:06).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s men also took first place with five runners in the top 11 and seven in the top 15 in the 8K event. Other TranSouth teams included Blue Mountain in second, Bethel third, Freed-Hardeman fifth and Trevecca in eighth.
Edwin Kurgat finished as the top individual with a time of 26:28. Alex Bett finished second just a fraction of a second behind (26:28), Zach Covington fourth (27:11), Joel Wellum tenth (28:27), Drake Ott 11th (28:30), Dan Ramer 13th (28:42), Caleb Creel (28:49) and Logan Smith 22nd (29:50).
For Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, this is the fourth time the women’s team has qualified for nationals. It is the third time the men’s team has qualified for the NAIA National Meet.
