JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/2/2010 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with an 85-39 win over St. Catharine (Ky.) College. St. Catharine dropped to 1-1 on the season.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored the first four points, jumping out to a 20-3 lead. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ continued to build on that lead, pushing it up to the halftime score of 44-10.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ opened the second half with a 6-0 run. The Lady Bulldogs stretch their lead to as many as 51 points, 72-21 at the 9:16 mark. Nine of the 11 players that played for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the win 85-39.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Zeinab Chan and Lavanda Ross with 22 points each. Hope Adams added 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 57 percent from the field, 47 percent (8-17) from behind the arc and 62 percent (13-21) from the free throw line.
St. Catharine was led by Danielle Brown with seven points and Machera Calhoun with five rebounds. The Patriots shot 29 percent from the field, 19 percent (4-21) from three-point range and 50 percent (7-14).
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a basketball double-header on Saturday, Nov. 6 for homecoming. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s women play St. Francis (Ill.) at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m. versus Truett-McConnell (Ga.).
