Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ends regular season with win, secures tourney spot

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/29/2010 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ (Tenn.) University women’s soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-1 overtime win at Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 8-6-2 on the season and 2-3-1 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene dropped to 4-11-2 overall and 1-4-1 in league play.

This match was the third straight overtime match for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and sixth on the season. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is 2-2-2 in overtime matches on the year.

The win also secured a spot in the TranSouth Conference Tournament. Their seed, the location and opponent for their first round match is still yet to be determined.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored first just 16 minutes into the match on a goal from Bridget Roney, assisted by Whitney Kramer. That scored stood through halftime. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Trevecca Nazarene both recorded three shots in the first half.

Nine minutes into the second half, Trevecca Nazarene tied the match on a goal from Heather Halstead, assisted by Lanie Foutch. Both teams managed just one shot each in the second half as the defenses dominated play.

However, just 45 seconds into the first overtime, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Samantha Gase found the back of the net to give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ this win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ outshot Trevecca Nazarene 5-4 in the match, including 4-2 in shots on goal. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie Sarah White recorded one save and allowed the one goal. Neira Ahmespahic recorded two saves and allowed two goals for Trevecca Nazarene.

Up next will be the first round match in the conference tournament on Saturday, November 6.
